SPY 30 minute chart, last three sessions, closing at 765.29

The AI rally that followed Anthropic's IPO filing ran out of steam overnight. Nasdaq 100 and S&P 500 contracts were flat after Monday's strong gains, and tech fundraising drove sentiment, with Meta Platforms seeking to raise as much as $97.5 billion from selling common and preferred stock. Nvidia will also invest $3 billion in Meta's equity offering. Overseas, the iShares MSCI Brazil fund and Brazil's most heavily traded ADRs fell hard premarket after Lula won the election over Flavio Bolsonaro. Today hinges on a busy earnings slate before the open, the 10:00 AM consumer confidence reading, and Robinhood, Visa and Seagate after the close. The backdrop is the start of the Fed meeting: markets expect rates to stay unchanged .

Social-media trends

Retail attention is on fintech earnings. On social platforms, sentiment around SOFI improved from 'neutral' to 'bullish' over 24 hours as message volumes jumped 726% . PayPal is also near the top, with traders debating whether subdued expectations could support a rebound or whether weak branded checkout will weigh on it. Leveraged tech is crowded: SOXL and TQQQ attracted record inflows , and sentiment around SOXL was 'extremely bullish' . Celestica is buzzing after shares surged nearly 17% in the overnight session after the company posted strong Q3 results . Ethereum is drawing attention too, amid a broader crypto selloff, with traders citing continued selling pressure, Bitcoin weakness, and leveraged liquidations .

What matters today

  1. The AI rally now has to absorb a lot of new stock. Anthropic's filing shows first-half revenue of $16.3 billion and a net loss of $80.7 billion . Meta also sold $12.5 billion of preferred shares at $50 apiece and $25 billion of common stock at $625 per share as part of a plan worth up to $97.5B. On top of that, Broadcom arranged a $63 billion deal to finance the purchase of chips, while SpaceX signed a roughly $40 billion equipment-finance lease deal . Options money split by company: Meta drew -$28.8M in net premium, and Alphabet drew -$27.1M (GOOGL) and -$26.3M (GOOG). Tesla drew +$48.0M and Microsoft +$19.7M. Trading impact: the AI trade is splitting, with share-selling megacaps lagging names that have their own catalysts.
  2. The Fed's two-day meeting starts today. The decision comes Wednesday at 2:00 PM ET. Traders assign about a 90% probability that the Federal Reserve holds its target range at 3.75% to 4.00% , and markets also price close to an 80% probability of a December increase . This is a non-SEP meeting, with no updated economic projections or dot plot , so Chair Kevin Warsh's remarks and any dissenting votes could influence December expectations . Trading impact: today's data is mainly a test of how likely a December hike is.
  3. Economic data and earnings today. At 8:30 AM ET, durable goods are expected at +1.2% (prior 0%). At 10:00 AM ET, consumer confidence is expected at 81.2 (prior 81.9) and new home sales at 655K (prior 684K). Before the open, Coca-Cola reports ( EPS estimate 0.88 ) and Boeing reports, with the consensus a loss of $0.21 per share . After the close, Visa reports ( consensus earnings of $3.43 per share ) and Robinhood reports, with consensus revenue of $1.41 billion, up 16% from a year earlier . Trading impact: 10:00 AM ET is the main data window, and Visa and Robinhood can move stocks after hours.
  4. Oil stays high on Middle East risk. Brent crude futures were down 66 cents, or 0.57%, at $115.15 a barrel, while US West Texas Intermediate crude was down 44 cents at $101.32 . Prices eased on talks with Iranian officials in Tehran on Monday aimed at easing tensions , but losses were limited as scope for peace looked fragile, with renewed attacks by Iran-aligned Houthis on key producer Saudi Arabia . Crude has gained about 12% this month . Trading impact: crude above $100 keeps inflation, and hawkish Fed risk, in play.
  5. Mixed futures ahead of megacap earnings. Early this morning, contracts for the Nasdaq-100 fell 0.3%, while futures on the Dow Jones Industrial Average moved just above the flatline . Market-wide options flow showed $14.7M in net call premium and -$48.7M in net put premium; QQQ took +$34.5M. Dealer positioning (gamma) data is unavailable today. Wednesday after the close, Microsoft reports (consensus EPS $4.71; revenue $90.63B ) and Alphabet reports. Amazon reports after the close on Thursday, October 29 , the same day as PCE, which is expected at 3.1% core year over year. Trading impact: the Fed and megacap earnings land within 48 hours, so expect choppy, headline-driven tech trading until Wednesday's close.
